Helping Signal Ohio bring Ohioans Local News
Signal Ohio is one of the largest “local non-profit news startups in the country” according to signalcleveland.org. As such, Signal’s Alan Ashby (Statewide PR & Communications, NE Ohio Director of Development) reached out to TPF with a funding request stemming from an idea. He requested $5,000 from TPF based on the assurance that Signal would seek a dollar for dollar match from other sources until they reached the $5,000 that TPF had committed. A shared donation “builds confidence and pride” for everyone involved according to Ashby.
This work is important. In Ohio, most counties have no news outlet and newspaper subscriptions are very expensive. Signal Ohio is a nonprofit newsroom striving to keep news free. Signal Ohio strives to engage in difficult conversations that connect Ohioans regardless of their perspectives.
